The Elements of Blogging: Three Pillars of Success
Monday, May 28, 2007
Blogging is becoming (has become) the new entrepreneurial dream. With the success of people like ProBlogger's Darren Rowse and John Chow, it seems like an eminently doable thing to become an A-List blogger.

The barriers to entry are low since there are plenty of free blogging solutions out there like Blogger and WordPress. Time is really the only currency you need to commit to spending. In that sense, students, teens, and other unemployed or dependent individuals have a distinct advantage.

So, what does it take to become the next Mike Arrington? There are really three elements, or pillars, to blogging success: content, traffic, and, naturally, monetary reward.

Find your niche

Technology and gadget blogs are probably on the top of the list for many would-be bloggers because they tend to be familiar topics, but you should really think about what you would be comfortable and eager to write about for the next 12 months because these things take time. You don't want to get blogger's block or become burned out by blogging.

Find your audience

As a blogger, you choose the kind of audience you attract based on how and what you post. This kind of self-selection means you should experiment with various posting styles to figure out what works for you. Do you want to write 5 short posts every day or the occasional essay-length post every week?

Find the money

Advertising is probably a bad idea when you start out blogging. Unless you have a built-in audience eager to read your writing (like a celebrity), you simply won't make any money for a long time. That said, diversification is key to a steady blogging income.

The final equation

The equation boils down to something like this: content + traffic = money. In future installments, I'll tackle each element in the equation more fully. For now, let me know your thoughts and questions. This post has been as much about "enlightening" potential bloggers as putting this whole blogging business in perspective for myself so please give me your feedback.

Worst company in the world
Google, also known as the company that will be someday soon be more hated than Microsoft, has a giant soul-sucking machine in Mountain View called the "Googleplex". Our trolls have managed to sneak these pictures out without being hypnotized by the evil lava lamps or having their teeth rotted out of their heads.

Burn a dvd movie to a vcd using Nero

First Copy the contents of the dvd movie files(.vob) to a folder on your hdd.

In explorer->View->Folder Options->View-> Uncheck hide file extensions for known file types.

Now navigate to the folder containing your movie files and change the extension of them from .vob to .mpg.

Using nero select vcd and add the files and click next.

Nero will convert the files to vcd format which will take about 20-30mins and burns the files to an empty cd.

iGo Incognito

One of the most popular ways to communicate in the modern wired world is Instant Messaging (or IM). This allows you to quickly and conveniently monitor whether your friends are online, send them messages and engage them in chats. Since many people now have a PC on their desktop, IM provides a cheap and easy way to stay in touch.

Having said that - none of the current popular products out there make a serious attempt to protect your communications. As Phil Zimmerman says, you send your regular mail in a sealed envelope - why don't you do the same with your electronic communications?

iGo Incognito is an Instant Messaging (IM) system similar to ICQ, AOL and others in that you can see whether people are online, send messages, have private chats and join discussion forums.

However, this is where the similarity ends - because iGo Incognito provides several important unique facilities - the foremost amongst them being Security/Safety/Privacy.

iGo Incognito is the only IM facility built from the ground up on cryptographically strong security. No other IM product can provide end-to-end security - i.e. messages are encrypted at your machine and decrypted at your friends machine and cannot be decrypted in the middle.

Most IM products either don't encrypt traffic, or if they do they encrypt it is only for transmission to the server where it is decrypted. That still means that your messages can be read at the server. Furthermore, with some products they can be read on your machine because they are stored in clear text.

iGo Incognito encrypts messages using public key technology. Messages cannot be decrypted during transmission, they cannot be decrypted at the server, they can only be decrypted by the recipient. No one can intercept or view them - just the recipient.

This remarkable claim also applies to private chats - only people actually invited to a private chat can join, and only after joining can they see any of the messages.

Do I need this level of encryption?

The US government has recently forced all ISPs to install hardware to permit the easy monitoring of internet traffic, and required all telecommunications companies to make it possible to monitor a huge number of phone calls at any one time. Furthermore, thanks to legislation being enacted throughout the US, safeguards against the abuse of monitoring powers are disappearing. It is no longer just the FBI who are being given the power to snoop - local governments want it too.

iGo Incognito was founded on the premise that protecting your information is important. A combination of industry standard encryption techniques make it impossible for anyone to intrude on your privacy, even us! (read why). We do all that, and provide an excellent IM client as well.

iGo Incognito has also been built to allow richer forms of communication - permitting full rich text messaging, private chats, open discussion forums and offline messaging.

Features include:

  • Encrypting all traffic between you and the server using AES and 128 bit keys.
  • Encrypt all messages from you to your friends using PKE - only your friends can read them.
  • Messages are rich - you can express yourself in color, fonts, styles and formatting.
  • Secure voice messaging - click on a friend, speak and send.
  • Secure file transmission - including support for drag and drop from the explorer.
  • Simple to use.
  • You can add people to an ignore list - you will never hear from them again.
  • You can hide your account - no one will be able to find you if you don't want them to. Friends must know your ID in advance and ask for your permission before they can send you messages.
  • If you permit it, people can search for you by ID and (again, if you allow it) by name.
  • People can send you messages when you are offline, they are held at the server and forwarded to you when you return.
  • Friends can see when you are Offline, Online, Away, DND (Do Not Disturb).
  • You can create private chat sessions and invite other people. Chat membership and all traffic is protected from prying eyes - only group members can see the text of the chat session.
  • The chat moderator can add or remove people from the chat. Chat members don't need to be friends with each other.
  • From within a chat, you can send private messages and create private side-chats.
  • You can create open discussion forums that anyone can join. As always, all traffic is encrypted. However because the forums are open you cannot stop people joining.

Turn a shareware into unlimitedware

Many of you download applications/softwares from the internet one time or the other. And most of them are shareware which means they Seize to work after a period of 30days since from the installation day.So you start searching for cracks on the warez sites which are mostly full of porn and malware. And mostly the database is not updated frequently so you end up downloading an old version of the crack which doesnt work on the version which you have.

So as to overcome this problem and use the software for unlimited period follow these simple steps

  1. Before installation of the shareware set your system clock in to future(ie.,if your in the year 2007 set the year to 2009 or something like that).
  2. Now install the software which ever you want and after installing set back the date to the current (ie.,2007).
  3. Run the application/software and you can use it for unlimited days.
  4. Tested on bufferzone pro and returnil virtual system.

DIY:-Paper Cd case
Folding

How to fold the paper case:

1. Fold the left and right sides (lines labelled “1″ and “2″).

2. Fold the bottom edge up to the line labelled “3″. Then fold it back. This part will be the pocket.

3. Fold the top edge down to the line labelled “4″ and then fold it back. Then fold the top edge down the the line labelled “5″ and then fold it back. This will make the spine and top flap.

4. Spread the sides of the pocket to the sides to create “wings”. Beginners can do this by folding lines “6″ and “7″ (first wing) and then lines “8″ and “9″ (second wing). Or, fold “6″ and “8″ and then “7″ and “9″. The fold lines may be off slightly depending on your printer.

5. Tuck the wings behind the front part of the pocket. The two letter “A”s should touch each other and the two letter “B”s should touch each other. Flatten the pocket. Your CD will go in the pocket.

6. Make little dog ears in the top flap (labelled “10″ and “11″).

7. Tuck the top flap into the pocket. Woohoo! You’re done!

Fast gmail and orkut login

For low speed connections logging in to orkut or gmail could becomes an irritating task. You must have experienced gmail login problem especially on a dial up connection. Login in to gmail is comparatively slower because of its rich user interface, because of that sometimes the gmail login screens gives an error. And in orkut also sometimes the login box does not appears and says “connection timed out” or “server not responding” kind of messages. Following are some tips and tricks to login into gmail and orkut faster even with low speed internet connections.
Gmail login tricks :

- Use HTML version of gmail instead of standard version. You can access to gmail’s HTML version directly from this url http://mail.google.com/mail/h/
- Also try gmail mobile version via http://m.gmail.com ,it is very lo-fi version of gmail but the speed of logging in really fast, it is opening instantly on my system. The mobile version of gmail login page is simple, fast and furious.
So no more gmail login problems now.
Orkut login tricks :
- Directly open the small orkut login box from this url, it will skip the homepage of the orkut which consists of some images and worthless text. It really works, so try it.

Renaming Multiple Files At Once (Windows)
The Windows Explorer allows files to be renamed easily, by single clicking on the name and then editing it; however, this can be quite tedious if there are many files to be renamed. (Attempting to select a range of files and then using right-click + Rename doesn’t work. Only the last file in the range is renamed.)

Command Prompt to the rescue. This tip will show you how simple it is to use the REN command in the command prompt to do a wildcard rename.
REN, of course, is short for rename. The REN takes the form of “REN oldfilename newfilename” (or, you can spell out RENAME, if you prefer). Both the old filename and the new file name can contain wildcards.

Change Filename Extensions: Say, for example, you obtain a large set of ASCII files, all of which have names that end with a “.ASC” filename extension, but you need them to be named with “*.TXT” extensions instead. (In the following illustrations there are only two such files, but imagine that there are hundreds.)

Internet Archive has a Wayback bookmarklet

Many enthusiastic web surfers know that the venerable Internet Archive is the home of the Wayback Machine,
a tool that allows you to go back in time with a particular website to see what previous versions looked like. What we hadn't noticed until today is that the Wayback Machine has a bookmarklet you can use when viewing any site to quickly check if there are archived versions of it. The 'marklet can be had farther down on the Wayback Machine site, and the convenience it adds should prove useful to surfers who are curious about the history of a particular site.

Download mp3 and videos from any site

Did you know that you can download mp3, video and other files from almost any website with just a little effort ? All you need is Firefox, the Firefox extension Firebug and a download manager. This knowledge is especially helpful if the tools you normally use to download videos, mp3 or flash games does not work on a website.

Firebug is actually a great web development extension for Firefox which does also list all objects that are loaded with their full url on the server. I suppose you are already seeing where this is going, huh ? You just have to take a look at the objects and filter out the largest files which are most of the time the media files. Copy the url from that file and paste it into your download manager to download the mp3, video or other media file.

Let me give you an example on how to download a mp3 right from myspace. Make sure you have the firebug extension installed.

      Visit myspace.com and click on a band’s website, e.g. http://myspace.com/theused
      Open Firebug by pressing F12
      Play a song
Check the NET tab in Firebug and search for the biggest file
Copy the location of that file (by right-clicking it) and paste it into your download manager.
Rename the file and give it the right file extension, in this case .mp3

download mp3 from myspace

This method can be used on almost every other site that offers media files. Want some examples ? Gametrailers, Myspace, Youtube, Armor Games and many more. It is not working with sites that stream content to your PC (like Internet Radio but all others should be fine.)

The eleven digits of both upper and lower cased alpha-numeric video identification code is used to watch videos via YouTube’s website or embed them into other websites.

To download the videos via KeepVid or similar sites, the eleven digit video identification code is still useful, but in case of KeepVid crashes, user has to “kick it old school style” by reading YouTube video’s page source.

Taking (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23OB5OkIFHk) as an example, here is how to save videos from YouTube.

#Using Firefox#

Now after the page gets loaded right on the page and select View Page Source

Goto EDIT->FIND(or u can use the press ctrl+f or even F3)

In the find Box type

var fo

In the name line you will find some code like this

video_id=23OB5OkIFHk&l=289&t=OEgsToPDskKLUGVpZfIU5iXh3Q8At8g_&sk=T3JD5UxfJc2WVdeVvbxHkgC

For this example video, its public video identification code is 23OB5OkIFHk, but the internal prolonged video identification code is

Keep in mind that the code between “&t=” and “&s=” may be session-sensitive and changed every time the video is accessed.

To save the video, the URL path format is http://www.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=prolonged_video_identification_code

Now you have got the full link so use flashget to download the video.By default the file type or extension of the video is unknown so change it to flv.

Media players like VLC can play flv files stand alone. To convert flv video to other formats like Audio Video Interlaced (.avi), Quicktime (.mov) or Windows Media (.wmv), use CinemaForge.
or Free Riva FLV Encoder 2.0
